PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Title: Analysis of the different course delivery methods for psychological statistics

Research question:

In a psychological statistics class there are three main methods of course delivery. These are online classes, face to face interactions and blended methods which employs a combination of the first two methods. Is there a relationship between good performance of the students and the method of course delivery?

This study seeks to find out of there is any linkage that exists between how a student is taught and his or her performance in the subject of psychological statistics. In other words, the study is supposed to aid the researcher in finding out which one of these methods is the most effective in delivering knowledge to the students.

Null Hypothesis, H0

There is no relationship that exists between the method of course delivery and good performance of students in a psychological statistics class.

Alternate hypotheses

H1 There exists a relationship between the method of course delivery and the good performance of psychological statistics students.

H2 There exists a linkage between the use of online based learning and the performance of a psychological statistics student

H3 There exists a relationship between the use of face to face interactions with the tutor and the performance in class for a psychological statistics student.

H4 There exists a linkage between the use of blended methods and the performance of students in the psychological statistics class.

This research is qualitative in nature since the independent variables, methods of course delivery, cannot be expressed numerically.

The design of this research is Correlational. It is termed as correlational because one of the variables independent while the other is a dependent variable. To get the extent to which the variables relate, a correlation coefficient is derived. This coefficient helps the researcher to ascertain the nature of the relationship whether it is direct or inverse, strong or weak. The method that will yield the highest positive coefficient will be considered to be the one that has the most impact on a psychological statistics student’s good performance.

The independent variables are the methods of course delivery. Since they cannot be represented numerically they will be represented using a nominal scale.

Since the study is focusing on performance of psychological statistics, we will use an ordinal scale since the performance can be ranked from the highest to the lowest.

Once the data has been collected, the researcher will use inferential statistics. This is because further statistical operations can be carried out on the data as well as the preliminary results. Inferential statistics will enable this study to go beyond accepting or rejecting the hypotheses that have been stated above. Operations such as regression analysis will grant the researcher an in depth look at just how much influence the method of course delivery has on the performance of students taking psychological statistics.
